Saint John’s University junior Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and shot .647 percent (11-17) from the field in the Johnnies’ pair of in-region victories at Oshkosh, Wis., last weekend. He tallied eight points and nine boards in SJU’s 68-66 win over Wis.-Eau Claire on Nov. 27 as the Johnnies erased a 15-point deficit with 16 minutes left before going on a 39-22 run to end the contest. Burtzel then scored a season-high 18 points to go along with his 11 rebounds in the 79-71 win over Nov. 24 Wis.-Oshkosh on Nov. 28. The double-double was his second of the young season and eighth of his career. He is currently third in the MIAC in rebounding (10.0 rpg.), assists (4.0 apg.) and minutes played (32.6 mpg.).
The Johnnies begin MIAC play by hosting Bethel this Wednesday, Dec. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
