Saint John's senior forward Paul Wageman (Roseville, Minn./DeLaSalle) recorded both goals, including the game-winning tally with 17 seconds remaining in overtime, in the Johnnies’ 2-1 win over Hamline on Saturday (Oct. 24). The win, coupled with St. Thomas' 1-1 tie with Saint Mary's, enabled SJU to clinch its fourth consecutive trip to the MIAC Playoffs and solidify its standing in second place by three points.
Wageman looked to have scored a game-winner in regulation, in the 97th minute, but the goal was waved off due to an offside call. The real game-winning goal was all Wageman, who possessed the ball to the left corner of the box and ripped a laser to the right post for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
He is currently tied for second in the MIAC in goals (8) and is fourth in points (18).
The Johnnies (11-2-2, 6-1-1 MIAC) travel to face Macalester (11-0-5, 6-0-2 MIAC) in a battle for first place in the conference standings at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, under the lights of Macalester Stadium in St. Paul.
