Saint John's junior wide receiver Evan Clark (Phoenix, Ariz./Apollo) doubled last season's output with a pair of touchdown receptions, 18 and four yards, in the 45-9 season-opening win over Dubuque (Iowa) Sept. 5. He flashed his speed elsewhere, again, proving why he is one of the most dangerous kick returners in the country. Clark had three chances last weekend, and turned them into 95 yards; an average of 31.7 yards per return.
Clark picked up right where he left off last year, where he ended the 2014 season seventh nationally (fourth among those with 15 kick returns or more) at 30.8 yards per kick return (17 for 524 yards). He was named to the 2014 D3football.com All-West Region second team and 2015 Lindy’s Preseason All-America second team. The 524 kick-return yards was the fifth-most in SJU single-season history.
The Johnnies play host to another member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Buena Vista (0-1 overall), for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 12, in Clemens Stadium. The contest is also the Johnnies' Tackle Cancer game to benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. SJU will sell Tackle Cancer bracelets for $3 inside Clemens Stadium and all proceeds from the sales will be added to the monetary collection.
