Saint John's junior Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) won three events as the Johnnie swimming and diving opened its 2015-16 season with a win out of four teams at the Hamline Invitational on Nov. 7 in St. Paul.
SJU won 11 of the 13 events to post 452.5 points, followed by the host Pipers (322.5), Macalester (247) and Saint Mary's (120).
Individually, Alvarez won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.69), 100-yard butterfly (53.12) and 200-yard freestyle (1:49.09). He was also a member of SJU's first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:40.94) team.
SJU returns home to host St. Thomas in two weeks, the Johnnies' lone home event this season, for a noon dual on Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.
