Saint John's University sophomore guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) averaged 26.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 72.2 percent (26-for-36) from the field, including 68.0 percent (17-for-25) from three-point range, as SJU went 2-1 in three road games last week. He was named the MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Feb. 6 for his performance.
He started the week with a career-high 33 points on 12 of 13 shooting, including a 7-for-8 performance from three-point range, in the 92-74 win at Concordia-Moorhead Monday night (Jan. 30). He made each of his first 12 shots until a deep three-point attempt rattled out with 2:53 remaining in the game.
Stokman followed that with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the 78-71 win at St. Olaf Wednesday (Feb. 1) and tied the career high he set earlier in the week with 33 points, including 29 in the second half alone, in the 90-83 loss at Bethel Saturday (Feb. 4). He finished 10 of 16 from the field, including a 7-for-12 performance (7-for-10 in the second half) from three-point range, with five assists and four rebounds.
Stokman currently leads the MIAC in three-pointers (50), three-point percentage (.538, minimum 20 made), is second in free-throw percentage (.887), third in assist/turnover ratio (2.4, minimum 50 assists) and fourth in scoring (18.3 ppg.) in conference play.
The Johnnies (14-6, 10-5 MIAC) play host to Augsburg (8-12, 6-9 MIAC for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Sexton Arena.
