Saint John's sophomore Collin Seal (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) won the 81-man field, his first collegiate medalist honor, with an eight-over par 222 for SJU Blue at Gustavus Adolphus' Bobby Krig Invitational April 19-20. He was named the MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week for his performance.
The Johnnies' varsity, which is ranked No. 24 nationally, tied for first out of 15 teams with the host Gusties with a three-round total of 924 (+68). SJU Blue tied with Wisconsin-Eau Claire in third (+73, 929). No. 14 St. Thomas finished fifth (+74, 930), while Augsburg and No. 19 Bethel claimed sixth (+82, 938) and seventh (+100, 956), respectively.
Seal currently leads the Johnnies with a 75.6 stroke average in 22 rounds and three top-five finishes.
The Johnnie golf team wraps up the 2014-15 regular season with the annual SJU Spring Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26. The first round is scheduled for noon Saturday at the St. Cloud C.C., followed by 36 holes Sunday at Monticello C.C. (9 a.m. shotgun start).
