Saint John's junior goaltender Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) went 1-0-1 with a 0.96 GAA and a .975 save percentage (77 saves) last week.
He made a career-high 45 saves in the 0-0 scoreless tie against No. 2 St. Norbert, his first appearance in net since Dec. 6, on Jan. 8. The defending Division III champions and winners of three of the last four national titles, St. Norbert entered Thursday night’s game with the nation’s top scoring offense (5.67 gpg.), out-scoring the opposition 68-16 through the season’s first 12 games.
Soley then made 32 saves in the 6-2 win over Lawrence Jan. 11. The two goals consisted of an unassisted, breakaway goal (ahead 4-0) and a power-play tally.
He leads the MIAC in winning percentage (.667) and is second in both GAA (1.86) and save percentage (.940).
SJU (7-3-4, 4-1-1 MIAC) returns to MIAC play with a pair of games at Concordia-Moorhead, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Moorhead Sports Center.
