Saint John's freshman outfielder Wyatt Ulrich (Indus, Minn./International Falls) batted .692 (9-for-13) from the leadoff spot, extending his hitting streak to 27 games, and scored five runs as SJU went 3-1 to clinch its eighth consecutive MIAC Playoff appearance last week. He was named the MIAC Baseball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season May 8 for his performance.
The left-handed Ulrich was a perfect 3-for-3 against southpaws, batted .750 (6-for-8) with no runners on base and 2-for-2 with two outs.
He is batting .531 (60-for-113) this season, the top average in Division III by 31 points, and ended the regular season as the MIAC's leader in batting average (.494), on-base percentage (.523), runs scored (26) and hits (40) in conference play.
The two-time defending MIAC Playoff champion Johnnies (25-11, 14-6 MIAC) open the four-team, double-elimination tournament as the No. 3 seed against the No. 2 seed, St. Thomas, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Cold Spring Baseball Park in Cold Spring.
