Saint John's junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) shot 56.8 percent (21-for-37) from the field and averaged 15.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and a block in 26.3 minutes per game as SJU went 2-1 last week.
He went 6-for-10 from the floor and scored 12 points in the 95-77 loss to Division II St. Cloud State Nov. 22, but bounced back with a solid weekend as the Johnnies’ won both games at Colorado College’s Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic. Weiss tallied 15 points, six rebounds and shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from the floor in only 24 minutes of play in the 76-64 win over Willamette (Ore.) Nov. 25, and posted 20 points, his second 20-point game of the season, and five rebounds in the 82-55 win over the host Tigers. He was named to the five-man All-Tournament team.
Weiss currently leads the Johnnies (4-1 overall) in scoring (16.4 ppg.), rebounding (5.2 rpg.) and shooting percentage (.618).
The Johnnies (4-1 overall) play host to Carleton for their MIAC opener at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 3, in Sexton Arena.
