Saint John's junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) shot 65 percent (26-for-40) from the field and averaged 22.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as the Johnnies went 3-0 last week.
He led SJU with a career-high 25 points on 10 of 15 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season in the 87-81 win over league-leading Bethel Monday night (Jan. 16). The victory enabled the Johnnies to move into a three-way tie for first-place in the league with the Royals and Hamline.
Weiss is shooting 62.3 percent (48-for-77) with an average of 19.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in the last six contests since his season-low output of nine points Dec. 10 at St. Thomas. He currently leads the MIAC (all games) in both field goals (105) and field-goal percentage (.633, minimum 100 attempts), and is fourth in scoring (18.0 ppg.).
The Johnnies (11-3, 7-2 MIAC) travel to face Hamline (10-4, 7-2 MIAC) for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 18, in St. Paul.
