Saint John's freshman forward Mitch Fritz (St. Cloud, Minn.) totaled six points (3g/3a) from the Johnnies’ fourth line as SJU (8-9-2, 6-4-0 MIAC) swept Bethel, 7-3 and 7-1, to move into a tie for second place in the MIAC over the weekend.
He scored his first collegiate goal with an empty-netter and added two assists, including a helper on what proved to be the game-winning goal, Thursday night (Jan. 21). He then tallied two goals, one that started a stretch of seven unanswered and another on the power play, Saturday night (Jan. 23).
Fritz missed the first 10 games of the season due to a hand injury and has eight points (3g/5a) in his last five contests (he has only played six games this season).
The Johnnies play host to St. Thomas for a 7 p.m. game this Friday, Jan. 29, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. SJU then travels to face UST for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Cadet Ice Rink in Mendota Heights.
