Saint John's junior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) went 2-0 at No. 1 singles despite a pair of team losses for the Johnnies over the weekend. The wins extended the match streak to four for Larson, who is now 9-4 (4-2 MIAC) at No. 1 singles. Three of his four losses on the season were via the super-breaker.
He defeated Bethel’s Matt Schull in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) Saturday (April 8) and topped St. Thomas’ Luke Elifson, who entered the match with a 6-1 record (3-0 MIAC), Sunday (April 9. Larson won the first set (6-3) and dropped the second (6-1), but bounced back with a 10-3 victory in the super-breaker.
The Johnnies (2-12, 1-5 MIAC) return to action on Saturday, April 22, against Saint Mary's. A blessing and dedication of the Chang Tennis Complex will take place at 2 p.m., following the 10 a.m. SJU Alumni Tennis Open and a 1 p.m. picnic on Lynch Plaza (which is located behind Becker Park's grandstand). The Johnnies take on the Cardinals at 3 p.m.
