Saint John's sophomore Matt Lutz (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) led No. 16 SJU in a tie for second out of 99 golfers, tops among MIAC competitors, with a 146 (+2) as the Johnnies came back from 10 shots down to win their Fall Invitational Sept. 16-17. He carded four birdies and a 2-under par 70 in Sunday's final round. Lutz was named the MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week Sept. 19 for his performance.
Lutz has a 74.6 scoring average in seven rounds this fall, which is 4.6 better than last year's tally (79.2 average in 11 rounds).
The Johnnies compete at the three-day Twin Cities Classic, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus, this Saturday-Monday, Sept. 23-25. Saturday's round is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey.
