Saint John’s University junior point guard Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) scored a career-high 35 points, including eight three pointers, in the Johnnies’ 90-87 road win at the University of Chicago last Sunday, Nov. 28. Burns was 11 of 18 from the field, including 8-for-11 from behind the arc, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. He also added eight assists, four rebounds, two steals and did not commit a turnover. The eight three pointers tied him for third-most in a single game, in school history.
Burns averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 assists and shot 54.5 percent from the field in the weekend’s two games. He was also 9 of 15 from three-point range, 10-for-12 from the charity stripe and did not commit a turnover on the weekend.
A career 42.6 percent (86-202) three-point shooter, Burns led the MIAC (conference games only) in three-point shooting (.500, 34-68) last season.
The Johnnies (3-1, 0-0 MIAC) wrap up their non-conference schedule at Martin Luther this Wednesday, Dec. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in New Ulm.
