Saint John's University freshman running back Nick Schneider (Rockville, Minn./Rocori) rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries (12.8 avg.), including 119 yards and all three scores on nine carries in the second half, as the host Johnnies defeated Gustavus Adolphus 33-13 last Saturday. He scored on runs of 44, 32 and 10 yards.
The 179 yards is a school record for a freshman at SJU, shattering the old record of 141 yards set by Marty Cella in 1972 (Sept. 16, at St. Cloud State). Schneider now has 324 yards on 49 carries, an average of 6.6 yards per carry, and three touchdowns on the season. A versatile threat, Schneider currently leads SJU with 73.9 all-purpose yards per game, thanks to his 193 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 15 receptions.
SJU (4-3, 3-2 MIAC) travels to face Carleton next Saturday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Laird Stadium in Northfield.
