Saint John's University senior quarterback Joe Boyle (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) passed for 339 yards, his first career 300-yard passing performance, on 23 of 30 passing and two touchdowns in last weekend’s 48-10 win at Augsburg. He also added 41 yards on seven carries (net of 29 yards due to two sacks) and two more touchdowns. Boyle completed a pass to nine different receivers on the afternoon to record SJU’s first 300-yard passing game since Alex Kofoed threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns against St. Thomas on Oct. 27, 2007, a stretch of 24 games. The 24-game absence is the longest drought since the 53-game absence between the program’s second 300-yard passing performance (Oct. 30, 1982; Dennis Schleper at Macalester, 328 yds.) and its next on Sept. 17, 1988 (John Lahti at Gustavus, 321 yds.).
Boyle earned MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance.
SJU (3-1, 2-0 MIAC) plays host to nationally-ranked St. Thomas (4-0, 2-0 MIAC) for Homecoming this Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
