Saint John's sophomore goaltender Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) posted a .957 save percentage (44 saves) and a 1.02 GAA as SJU swept then-No. 13/14 St. Thomas (4-1 and 4-1) last weekend to take over sole possession of first place in the MIAC. He was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week Feb. 12 for his performance.
UST entered the weekend's series having allowed 10 goals during a 7-game win streak.
It was the Johnnies' first regular-season, series sweep of St. Thomas since 2004-05. The sweep also clinched a spot in the five-team MIAC Playoffs for the Johnnies (15-6-2, 10-4-0 MIAC), who sit atop the league standings with 30 points, two ahead of UST and three in front of Augsburg.
Lindgren currently leads the MIAC (all games) in GAA (1.89), save percentage (.931) and winning percentage (.750, 10-3-1). He is 3-0 with a 1.01 GAA and a .965 save percentage (82 saves) over his last three starts. He recorded a career-high 38 saves in the 2-1 victory Feb. 2 at Augsburg.
The 14th-ranked Johnnies close the regular season with a home-and-home series against Gustavus Adolphus (9-11-3, 8-6-0 MIAC), beginning with a 7:05 p.m. puck-drop on Friday, Feb. 16, in St. Peter. The Johnnies host the Gusties for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
