Saint John's senior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) shot 70.4 percent (19-for-27) from the field and averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds as SJU (16-1, 12-0 MIAC) went 2-0 on the road last week to extend its win streak to 14 games.
He led all scorers with 20 points, his sixth 20-point game of the season and 16th of his career, on 10 of 15 shooting and collected six rebounds in SJU’s 67-62 win Wednesday (Jan. 24) at Hamline. Weiss followed that with his sixth double-double of the season and 16th of his career, 18 points and 12 rebounds, in the 84-80 overtime win Saturday (Jan. 27) at Bethel.
The 16 career double-doubles broke Weiss' tie with his father, Travis '94, for the third-most in SJU history (since the 1983-84 season). The 18 points also enabled Weiss to pass Tom Grudnowski '72 into 13th on SJU's all-time scoring list with 1,220, 18 points behind Paul Henrichs '06 in 12th.
The Johnnies host Gustavus Adolphus for a 7 p.m. game tonight in Sexton Arena.
