Saint John's senior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) Larson went 2-0 in both doubles and singles competition as SJU (11-2, 5-0 MIAC) earned a pair of 8-1 wins at Bethel (April 6) and St. Thomas (April 7) last weekend. He was named the MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week April 10 for his performance.
He is now 12-4 (4-1 MIAC) on the year in singles play, while he and freshman Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) extended their win streak to 12 Saturday with a 9-8 (7-1) win at No. 1 doubles. The duo boasts a 13-1 record on the year, including a 12-0 (5-0 MIAC) mark at No. 1.
Friday's win snapped a five-match losing streak for SJU in its series with BU and the 8-1 victory was the largest margin over the Royals since 2006 (also 8-1). Saturday's victory was the Johnnies' first against the Tommies during the regular season since 2009.
The Johnnies take on St. Scholastica for a noon match Saturday, April 14, at Daytona Golf Club in Dayton.
