Junior wrestler Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) won the 184-pound weight class last Saturday (Dec. 9) at the St. Cloud State Open. The eighth-ranked wrestler in NCAA Division III, Dodd snapped a four-matching losing streak with an unblemished 3-0 record on the day.
Dodd opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Augsburg’s Lorenzo Hernandez and won his semifinal bout with a 4-2 decision over St. Cloud State’s Riley Vanik. He clinched the title with a tight 6-5 victory over Augsburg’s Jackson Graham, a transfer from SJU.
A national qualifier last season a sophomore, Dodd currently has a 6-4 record on the year, including a 4-1 against Division III competitors.
The Johnnies host No. 1 (Division II) St. Cloud State for a 7 p.m. dual on Thursday, Dec. 28, in Sexton Arena.
