With a late push toward the finish, Saint John’s University junior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine)won the St. Catherine 4k Invitational with a with a time of 12:19, three seconds ahead of second place, on Oct. 11. He earned his second MIAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week award of the season for his performance.
The first five Johnnies all crossed the finish line in the top 10 as SJU totaled 32 points, followed by St. Thomas (46) and Hamline (52). All three teams were again ranked closely in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region rankings released Oct. 14: No. 6 UST, No. 7 SJU and No. 8 HU.
Feichtinger earned his first MIAC weekly honor two weeks ago for his performance at the Griak Invitational. He has led SJU at all three of its races this fall, a feat he accomplished at three of the Johnnies' four varsity meets in 2013 before suffering an ankle injury the week prior to the MIAC Championship, where he took 35th.
The Johnnies cross the border for the Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 18. The race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Ettrick G.C. in Ettrick, Wis.
