Saint John’s University junior midfielder and co-captain Alex Niederloh's (Maple Grove, Minn.) first goal of the season, in the 104th minute, gave SJU a 1-0 win in double overtime at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Sept. 27. The win snapped the Gusties' 17-match, MIAC regular-season win streak. The win, coupled with the Johnnies' 2-1 victory at Gustavus in last year's MIAC semifinal, also gave SJU its first back-to-back wins in St. Peter since 1988 (2-0) and 1990 (1-0).
Niederloh currently leads the teeam with three assists on the year, two of which were recorded in the Johnnies’ last home match, the 3-1 win over Hamline Sept. 17. Three of Niederloh’s last four goals have been game-winners.
SJU (5-4, 2-1 MIAC) plays host to Macalester for a 4 p.m. match today at Haws Field in Collegeville.
