Although Saint John's sophomore pitcher Patrick Strey (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) registered a 1-1 record last week, he posted a 1.38 ERA and a .204 opponent batting average with seven strikeouts (to two walks) in 13 innings.
He earned the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings of work against Bethel April 8. He struck out four to two walks and retired nine straight Royals at one point during his stint.
Strey saved his best for Palm Sunday, allowing only four hits with three strikeouts, to no walks, in the seven-inning 7-0 shutout of St. Olaf April 13. He threw 66 pitches, 51 for strikes, to improve to 2-1 on the year.
The Johnnies (13-4, 5-3 MIAC) travel to face Carleton for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 19, in Northfield.
