Saint John's senior guard Jack Wittenborg (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) scored 16 of his career-high 19 points in the second half as SJU added to its two-point halftime lead in a 69-55 win over Bethel on Jan. 4 in Collegeville.
He tallied 10 points in the first 6:41 after intermission and his layup with 7:12 remaining gave SJU a 20-point lead (61-41). Wittenborg ended the day seven of 12 from the field, including a 4-for-7 showing from three-point range.
The Johnnies (4-5, 2-2 MIAC) play host to Macalester for a 7:30 p.m. game, the 1,300th of head coach Jim Smith's career at SJU, this Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Sexton Arena. Smith is 71-28 all-time against the Scots, including a 38-11 record on the home court.
