Saint John's University freshman kicker Alexi Johnson (Shakopee, Minn.) made a pair of extra points, including a crucial game-tying PAT following a five-yard penalty, as well as the game-winning 40-yard field goal with two seconds remaining in the Johnnies' 17-14 comeback win at Wisconsin-River Falls on Sept. 6. ZHe was named the MIAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance.
Johnson's reported career high in high school was 37 yards. The boot was the best mark by an SJU freshman since Brandon Keller (2001-04) made a 41-yard field goal in the 25-10 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the 2001 season opener.
The Johnnies (1-0, 0-0 MIAC) play host to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (0-1, 0-0 WIAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville. The matchup will also be the Johnnies' Tackle Cancer game to benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Monetary donations will be collected throughout the stadium.
