Saint John's University junior John Subialka (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) led the Johnnies with a 16th-place finish, to earn All-Region honors (top 35), as SJU finished fourth out of 27 teams Nov. 10. For the first time since 1994, the Saint John's cross country did not earn a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship despite finishing in the top four at the NCAA Central Regional Nov. 10.
St. Olaf won the event with 70 points, followed by Central of Iowa (75), Luther of Iowa (144), SJU (155) and Loras of Iowa (170). The Johnnies were ranked seventh in the final regular-season U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region rankings released Oct. 30. Central (Iowa) earned the top spot, followed by St. Olaf, Loras (Iowa), St. Thomas and Luther (Iowa).
Subialka claimed 16th out of 185 runners with a time of 26:15. Freshman Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) followed close behind in 18th (26:17).
