Saint John's freshman forward John Haeg (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied four points (3g/1a), including two (1g/1a) on the power play, as Saint John’s split with Bethel to earn a trip to the MIAC Playoffs last weekend. He gave SJU an early 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 3:31 into Friday’s game and assisted on the eventual game-winner in the 4-1 win. Haeg tied Saturday’s game at 1-1, 27 seconds after the Royals found the scoreboard first, and again to make it 4-4 after BU gained a 4-1 lead with three power-play goals in the 7-4 loss.
Haeg ended the regular season tied for third in the MIAC with 27 points (7g/20a) in 23 games (1.2 ppg.), and tied for second in conference games only (7g/15a in 14 games, 1.6 ppg.). The totals led all MIAC freshmen, including a nine-point lead ahead of the second-highest total in conference play. His 20 assists (15 in MIAC play) placed him second in the conference. Haeg leads the team with a plus/minus rating of +11.
The Johnnies (11-12-2, 9-7-0 MIAC) travel to face Gustavus Adolphus in the semifinal round of the MIAC Playoffs this Saturday, Feb. 25. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter.
