Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) and freshman
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Petersen was named the MIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Grabinski earned the accolade for Men's Swimming & Diving.
Petersen broke the program record in the heptathlon to finish second at Division I North Dakota State's Bison Open last Saturday (Feb. 5). He completed the two-day, seven-event competition with 4,868 points, topping the previous record of 4,753 set by Michael Leither '08 in 2008. The total is currently eighth-best in NCAA Division III this season.
Petersen claimed second in the 1,000 meters (3:08.41) and third in four events: 60-meter dash (7.20), 60-meter hurdles (8.77), high jump (2.00 meters) and pole vault (3.80 meters). He is second in the MIAC in the high jump (2.00 meters), fifth in the long jump (6.34 meters) and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.77).
The Johnnies host an invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
Grabinski, meanwhile, won both events at Gustavus Adolphus' diving invitational on Saturday. He won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA B qualifying score of 438.75 and the 3-meter board with a 437.35.
SJU swimming and diving returns to action with the four-day MIAC Championships next Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 16-19, at the University of Minnesota's Jean Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
