Day 2 Results
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's senior
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) won his first event of the 2026 MIAC Championships in the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Johnnies on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the University of Minnesota Jean Freeman Aquatic Center.
After two days of competition, Gustavus Adolphus is in first place with 328 points, followed by SJU (213), Carleton (208.5) and Macalester (167.5).
Slavik started the day by winning his prelim with a time of 4:35.83, six seconds faster than the next swimmer. He claimed his second-straight MIAC title in the event with an NCAA "B" cut of 4:29.70, which is also the second-fastest time in school history. He was 0:00.21 away from his own school record set at last year's conference meet.
Junior
Trevor Barton (Buffalo, Minn.) took sixth behind Slavik with a 4:47.38 for 13 points towards SJU's total. Freshman
Braydon Ohrtman (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) took seventh in the consolation final (15th overall) with a time of 4:56.94.
Freshman
Lincoln Cochran (Helena, Mont./Capital) just missed qualifying for the A final in the 200-yard individual medley with a prelim time of 1:58.63, 0:00.82 from the final spot. He led the B final with a 1:58.05 for nine points.
Senior
Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) was 0.13 away from defending his conference title in the 50-yard freestyle, taking second in 20.83. Gustavus' Braden Ripken touched the wall first with a 20.70. Freshman
Vincent Schulze (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished eighth in the sprint with a time of 21.31.
SJU's 400-yard medley relay team of Slavik, senior
Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.), sophomore
Jackson Hovda (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) and Reuter took second behind the Gusties with a time of 3:25.61. The Johnnie quad bettered the seed time by 16 seconds to claim 34 points and the second-fastest mark in program history.
The third day of the conference meet begins with prelims at 10:30 a.m. Friday, followed by finals at 6:30 p.m. in Minneapolis. The men's side features the 1-meter dive, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
