Day 1 Results

MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – Saint John's golf is third out of 15 teams, one shot from second place and six from the lead, following the Minnesota Golf Classic's first 36 holes held Sunday, Sept. 20, at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72).

SJU was in second, one shot from Bethel in the lead (+3), after round one. Round two dropped the Johnnies to third after Lake Forest (Ill.) shot an 8-under-par 280 in round two.

Monday's final round begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Junior Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) tied a career low with a 3-under par 69 in round one thanks to four birdies and just one bogey. He dropped 15 spots after shooting 3-over in round two. He added two more birdies, one on two shots, but bogeyed twice and tripled once to sit in a tie for 20th out of 108 golfers heading into Monday's final round. 

Freshman William Andrus (St. George, Utah/Homeschool) jumped 16 spots in round two after shooting six birdies. His 3-under 69 placed him in a tie for 16th overall. 

Sophomore Lukas Ehmke (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) shot a 74 (+2) with a birdie in round one and was even (72) with four birdies in the second round for 32nd. Sophomore Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) was +2 in both rounds with six total birdies for 46th. 

Senior Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) rounded out the SJU first team in 65th (79-73-152). He shares the spot on the leaderboard with freshman Abe Walther (St. Paul, Minn./St. Thomas Academy), who was plus-seven (79) in round one and just one over in round two (73) to lead SJU Blue.
