The Johnnie golf team competes at Bethel's Minnesota Golf Classic this Sunday-Monday (Sept. 20-21) at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72) in Maple Plain. – Live Scoring

TEE TIMES: Sunday's 36 holes begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun, followed by another 8 a.m. shotgun Monday for the final round.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's Blue tied for ninth out of 22 teams last weekend (Sept. 13-14) at Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational. 

The host Blugolds won the tournament with a two-round 290-294-584. Dubuque (Iowa) finished second after carding Monday's lowest round (+1, 289) for a , followed by Illinois Wesleyan (+22, 594) in third and UWEC's second team (+29, 601) in fourth. Bethel tied with UW-Stout with a 605 (+33) for fifth. SJU Blue carded a 615 (+43) alongside St. Olaf after a Monday 312 (+24). Saint John's Red tied with Bethel's B team in 11th (+44, 616). 

Sophomore Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) was SJU and the red team's top finisher, carding a round-two 77 (+5) with a birdie and 11 pars for 26th out of 124 golfers.  

Junior Marty Timmons (Brainerd, Minn.) and classmate Connor O'Hara (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) led SJU Blue in a tie for 35th. Timmons shot a team-best 74 (+2) on Monday by way of 11 pars and a trio of birdies. O'Hara was eight-over on Monday (80) with a 73 the day before.  
Freshman Abe Walther (St. Paul, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) tied for 40th overall after shooting nine-over in his second round. He was even on 12 holes but tripled three and bogeyed three for an 81. Sophomore Lukas Ehmke (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) tied for 68th after shooting an 80 alongside O'Hara. He made par on 11 holes and birdied another. Sophomore Collin Fogarty (Pine Island, Minn.) rounded out SJU Blue with a 78 (+6) on Monday. 

Senior Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) and freshman William Andrus (St. George, Utah/Homeschool) both tied for 40th. Appelhof was only one shot over par on holes No. 10-18 but bogeyed three of his last four holes, while Andrus shot an 80 on (+8) in round two. Junior Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) shot a 77 with a pair of birdies and nine pars to tie for 57th.  

WHO WILL BE THERE: The Johnnies and host Royals (two teams) are scheduled to be joined this weekend by Carleton, Concordia-Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus (two teams), Lake Forest (Ill.), Luther (Iowa), St. Olaf, Wisconsin-Eau Claire (two teams), Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Wisconsin-Stout.

The field will also include individuals from a number of NCAA Division I programs that are competing at Minnesota's 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational across the road at Windsong Farm G.C.: Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgia, Grand Canyon, Kent State, Marquette, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts and St. Thomas.

LAST YEAR'S TOURNAMENT: SJU tied for fifth out of 15 teams at last year's Minnesota Golf Classic on Sept. 6-7 (2025). Gustavus bounced back from an opening-round 309 (+21) and climbed from 12th to a tournament win with a 1-under par 287 during Sunday's first round and closed with a 274 (-14) in the final 18 holes. The Gusties finished with a three-round total of 870 (+6), followed by the tournament's host, Bethel (+12, 876); Carleton (+14, 878); Wisconsin-Stout (+35, 899); and a tie between SJU and St. Olaf at 904 (+40). 

Rutgers' Jeffrey Zatorski earned medalist honors with a 9-under par 207.

Ehmke was the top finisher for the Johnnies in 29th (+6, 222) out of 109 golfers as a member of SJU Blue. Ehmke finished with five birdies on Sunday to card a 72-74-76. SJU Blue claimed 11th at 920 (+56).

Appelhof, who was tied for second among Division III golfers after round one, finished 33rd overall and 12th among Division III competitors. Appelhof was +1 in his second round with four birdies and 11 pars but bogeyed six times and doubled twice in his final 18 to shoot a 223 (+7). 

Grahek was next for SJU's varsity in a tie for 50th (+10, 226). He and Appelhof shot the Johnnies' best round two (73), but the sophomore dropped with a 79 in his final round of the day.

Tim Fultz '26 and Ethan Kress '26 tied for 58th with a three-round score of 229 (+13). Kress jumped nine spots in his final round with a three-over par 75.
