Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) received his second consecutive MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week honor on Tuesday, May 4.
Gutzmer shared the May 4 honor with St. Thomas' Matt Armstrong.
Gutzmer became the 12th Johnnie to earn medalist honors at the MIAC Championship by tying with Armstrong with a three-round total of 208 (-8) as SJU shattered the 54-hole, championship-meet record with a three-day total of 850 (284-281-285) to win the program's 13th MIAC title April 30-May 2 at Emerald Greens G.C. (par 72) in Hastings.
SJU set the previous record-low in 2006 and topped it by 27 shots last weekend.
Gutzmer collected six birdies to post a 68 (-4), SJU's best individual round of the tournament, Sunday and finish with the program's new MIAC Championship record for a three-round tourney. He leads the Johnnies with a 72.3 average in nine rounds this spring, six of which were at par or better.
SJU will make its 18th appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship May 11-14 at Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, W.Va.
