COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Three Saint John's University student-athletes were named to the 2017 All-MIAC soccer team on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Junior midfielder
Zack Boerjan (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and senior midfielder
Daniel Bruckbauer (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) were named to the first team, while sophomore goalkeeper
Payton Spencer (Hudson, Wis.) was named honorable mention.
Senior defender
Jerry Havens (Mead, Wash./Mt. Spokane) was named to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
The All-MIAC first-team honor is the second consecutive for Boerjan, who led the team with seven assists and finished second with 15 points in 15 games. Nine (3g/3a) of his points, and two game-winning goals, were recorded in nine MIAC games.
Bruckbauer played all 17 games and led the Johnnies in goals (8) and points (21) this fall, including nine points (2g/5a) in 10 conference games. He collected six points (2g/2a) in SJU's final three games and recorded a hat trick, the Johnnies' first since 2012, Oct. 11 at Wisconsin-Superior. Bruckbauer ended his career with 45 points (16g/13a) and six game-winning goals in 64 games.
Spencer posted a 4-3-1 record with a 1.19 GAA and a .853 save percentage in eight conference games. He ended the regular season as the MIAC leader (all games) in both goalkeeper saves (74) and save percentage (.871), and finished with an even 5-5-1 record, 1.13 GAA and a .863 save percentage in all games. Spencer tallied a 5-3-1 record with a 0.95 GAA and a .887 save percentage in his final nine starts of the season.
Havens played all but one game, with 12 starts, in 2017. He assisted on Bruckbauer's goal in the 2-1 loss at Hamline Oct. 31 in the MIAC Playoff quarterfinals.
The Johnnies won their final two regular-season games to finish fifth in the MIAC with a 4-4-2 record (7-8-2 overall) and made their sixth consecutive appearance in the MIAC Playoffs this fall.
