St. Lawrence Box ScoreFORT MYERS, Fla. – Saint John's baseball opened its 10-game, spring-break trip with a pair of wins on Sunday, March 20, in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Johnnies (5-3 overall) started the day with an 11-3 victory over SUNY-Purchase and posted a 5-1 win over St. Lawrence (N.Y.) in the nightcap.
Junior third baseman
Derek Schiebel (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) went 4-for-6 with a double and a RBI, while freshman second baseman
Cole Weaver (Carlsbad, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the win over Purchase (5-8 overall). The Johnnies scored nine runs in the first three innings and left 12 men on base.

Logan Hershey (Maple Grove, Minn.), senior outfielder
Dan Keller (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake) and senior first baseman
Patrick Strey (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) tallied two hits apiece. Both of Strey's hits were doubles and he drove in three.
Senior
Marcus Barone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) picked up his first varsity win, allowing the three runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Junior
Sam Ferguson (Arcadia, Wis.) struck out five in three hitless innings of relief.
Senior catcher
Gabe MacDonald (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) hit his second home run of the season in the third inning and threw out three baserunners on the day.
The Johnnies won a pitcher's duel in the second game as they scored two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to give senior
Patrick Strey (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) his second win of the season and 10th of his career.
The Saints (0-5 overall) tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning before Hershey broke the tie with what prove to be the game-winning run on an RBI single in the seventh. MacDonald brought in another run with an RBI groundout for the second out.
Freshman outfielder
Max Jackson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) padded the Johnnies' lead with a two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning. He finished with two hits, as did Hershey and Weaver.
Strey allowed the one run on five hits in eight innings of work. He struck out four and walked two. Sophomore
Ted Christian (Le Center, Minn./Tri-City United) pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
The Johnnies begin the second day of their trip with another nine-inning game each against St. Lawrence (9 a.m. EDT) and Purchase (12 p.m. EDT) on Monday, March 21, at the Lee County Player Development Complex (PDC) in Fort Myers. The PDC was the former home of the Boston Red Sox from 1993-2011.
