SJU Soccer Falls to Central, 5-0

PELLA, Iowa – A quasi-Saint John's University soccer team fell at Central (Iowa) 5-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Six Johnnie starters stayed back in Collegeville due to academic obligations (exams, labs).

Central (5-4, 0-0 IIAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two goals in the first nine minutes of the match. The Dutch then added two goals, 1:58 apart, to take a 4-0 lead into the half. The home team added the fifth and final goal at the 53:14 mark of the second half.

Senior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) played the first 45 minutes in goal and made five saves. Junior Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made one save in the second half. Twenty-two Johnnies saw action in the match.

The Johnnies (4-4, 1-2 MIAC) travel to face Carleton for a 1 p.m. match this Saturday, Oct. 3, in Northfield.
