A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (4-3, 1-2 MIAC) earned its first conference win of the season with a 1-0 decision over Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Collegeville. Senior Eric Bell (Little Falls, Minn.) found the net off a rebound at the 70th minute. Freshman Ryan Fuchs (St. Michael, Minn./Rogers) chipped a shot off Gustie keeper Luke Strom where Bell was waiting on the uncontrolled save. Saint John's then scored three second-half goals to defeat the University of Mary 3-1 on Sunday, Sept. 27, in Bismarck, N.D. The Marauders took a 1-0 lead at the 38:34 mark of the first half on a goal from Cory Hittle. Bell scored his second goal in as many days to tie the match at 1-1 just 4:38 into the second half. Junior Andrew Lilly (Maple Grove, Minn.) gave SJU a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the season at the 61:54 mark. Junior Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) added an insurance goal, his fifth of the season, at the 76:11 mark. Junior Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made three saves to record the victory in his first start of the season.
A LOOK AT THE DUTCH: The Dutch (4-4, 0-0 Iowa Conference) are coming off a 1-0 win against Monmouth, Ill. on Sept. 23, as well as two overtime losses against Hamline (Sept. 20) and Macalester (Sept. 18). Three of four losses have occurred in overtime. In the last seven years, Central has posted a 93-34-9 (.716) overall mark. This year, the Dutch had to replace five of their starters, including their four-year veteran goalkeeper. Junior Brett McKenzie currently leads Central with five points (2g/1a). Last season, McKenzie was a first team All-IIAC selection, as well as Central's leading scorer with 21 points (9g/3a).
THE LAST MEETING: The last time that the Johnnies and the Dutch met was Sept. 28, 2008, where the Johnnies took away a 1-0 win. Hall headed a goal in with 1:06 remaining in the first half that proved to be the game winner. Hall's goal came from a corner kick by junior A. J. Sollom (Roberts, Wis./River Falls). Senior goal keeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made seven saves to earn his second consecutive shutout of the season. - Box Score
