Round 1 Results

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's golf is in second place out of 14 teams, five shots from the lead, following the opening round of its fall invitational held Saturday, Sept. 26, at a rain-soaked St. Cloud C.C. (par 72).

Bethel sits atop the leaderboard following its 3-over par 291, followed by SJU (+8, 296), Manitoba (+14, 302), Concordia-Moorhead (+15, 303) and Bethel's second team (+18, 306). SJU Blue is seventh (+19, 307) and SJU White is 13th (+31, 319).

All five Royals bogeyed No. 18 but the Royals carded six birdies over the last four holes (Nos. 15-18) to make up ground on the host Johnnies, who lost a collective six shots on the final four holes.

Sunday's final round begins with 8 a.m. tee times at Blackberry Ridge G.C. (par 72) in Sartell.

Senior Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) leads SJU after carding six birdies for a 1-under par 71. He was -2 through his first nine holes but bogeyed twice and doubled another hole in his last six. Appelhof is tied for third with Bethel's Zeke Roberts in the field of 87 golfers.

Freshman and reigning MIAC Golfer of the Week William Andrus (St. George, Utah/Homeschool) is next for the Johnnies after shooting a 1-over par 73. Like Appelhof, he shot three birdies in his front nine and is tied for eighth. 

With the exception of a double on hole No. 17, junior Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) was almost perfect through his back nine with eight pars. He birdied once on hole No. 4 – and was one of six Johnnies to do so – for his day-one final of 76 (+4). 

Grahek and sophomore Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) share a tie for 19th alongside two other Johnnies spread across three teams. Roloff ended his day with a pair of birdies but doubled hole No. 15 to end the day with a 76 (+4).

Sophomore Collin Fogarty (Pine Island, Minn.) leads SJU Blue with a 2-over par 74. He birdied once and bogeyed twice on each of his front and back nine.

Junior Dylan Willette (Eden Prairie, Minn.) is first among the Johnnie individuals and SJU White with a 79 (+7).
