A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's finished fourth out of 15 teams at Bethel's Minnesota Golf Classic on Sunday-Monday (Sept. 20-21) at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72) in Maple Plain.

Bethel won its home invite with a 290-283-289-862 (-2). Wisconsin-Stout finished second after shooting Monday's best round (-8) and tallied an 864 total. Wisconsin-Eau Claire was two shots ahead of SJU in third (874, +10). The Johnnies finished 12-over par after tallying a 297 (+9) on Monday.  

Freshman William Andrus (St. George, Utah/Homeschool) led SJU in 15th after shooting 1-under par on Monday morning. He tallied three birdies and was 2-under on his back-nine for a 71. 

Junior Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) was next for SJU, dropping 18 spots after carding a 4-over 76 in his final round. He was five shots over on the front nine, but made up ground with a pair of birdies to shoot his back nine 1-under. 

Sophomore Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) finished with a 74 (+2) in round three. He birdied three holes en route to a final position of 46th.  

SJU sophomore Luke Ehmke (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) dropped after carding a 7-over 79 in round three for 57th. Senior Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) also shot a 76 on Monday to finish 61st overall (+12).  

Freshman Abe Walther (St. Paul, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) led SJU Blue in 49th with a pair of birdies and a 79 on Monday (+7).

WHO WILL BE HERE: The Johnnies (three teams) are scheduled to be joined this weekend by Augsburg, Bethel (two teams), Carleton, Concordia-Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus' second team, Macalester, Manitoba, St. Olaf and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (two teams).

LAST YEAR'S TOURNEY: SJU finished fourth out of 19 teams at last year's fall invitational on Sept. 20-21 (2025). Carleton shot the best final-round score – a 2-under par 286 – to win the tournament by 10 shots with a two-day total of 569 (-7). Bethel's second team tied with Willamette (Ore.) for second at 579 (+3), one shot ahead of the Johnnies in fourth (+4, 580). Whitworth (Wash.) was fifth (+12, 588). The Knights' Sam Higaki followed an opening-round, 7-under par 65 with a 71 (-1) to earn medalist honors at 136 (-8), three shots ahead of St. Olaf's Isaac Schmidt in second (-5, 139).

Tim Fultz '26 led the Johnnies with a two-day 68-72-140 (-4) to finish third out of 119 golfers. He shot even-par 72 on Sunday, collecting a pair of birdies on the front nine – including a two-shot birdie on No. 9 – but bogeyed twice in the back nine for an even-par 72. 

Roloff was three-under on the back nine to jump 29 golfers on the leaderboard with a 2-under par 70. He carded back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 and another on 17 to finish 10th overall. Grahek took 20th after three doubles and a bogey ended in a Sunday 76. Gus Briguet '26 finished 24th with a 75 and a trio of birdies in his final round.

Ethan Kress '26 led the 19 Johnnies with five birdies Sunday for a 2-under par 70 to tie for seventh overall with an even-par 144 to lead SJU Blue, which tied for sixth at 593 (+17). Ehmke tied for 24th with a 148 (+4).

Juniors Mac Drake (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) and Marty Timmons (Brainerd, Minn.) finished in a tie for 35th to lead SJU White, which ended the weekend in 13th (+39, 615).
