D3baseball.com Release

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's freshman pitcher Max Edwards (Rockford, Minn.) was named to the D3baseball.com All-American second team on Thursday, May 28.

Edwards is SJU's baseball's second-consecutive All-American and eighth overall. He is the third Johnnie pitcher to be named an All-American, but the first as a primary starter. Joey Long '13 (2012 D3baseball.com second team) and Justin Thompson '14 (2014 ABCA third team and D3baseball.com honorable mention) recorded 10 saves each during their banner seasons on the mound.

Third baseman Joe Becker '24 was named to D3baseball.com's All-America first team and the ABCA's second team in 2025.

Edwards was named the D3baseball.com Region 9 Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and garnered first-team All-Region 9 distinction from both D3baseball.com and ABCA May 26.

He became the first student-athlete to earn MIAC Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season on May 12. Edwards was SJU's second D3baseball.com Region Rookie of the Year, joining outfielder Wyatt Ulrich '20 in 2017, and the first Johnnie to garner region Pitcher of the Year accolades. Becker was named the D3baseball.com Region 9 Player of the Year last season.

Edwards posted a 6-3 record, 2.01 ERA, .180 opponent batting average and 61 strikeouts in 62.2 innings (11 appearances and eight starts). The righty's opponent batting average included a .167 (9-for-54) mark against left-handed batters and .163 (22-for-135) with the bases empty.

He ended the regular season fifth in NCAA Division III in ERA (1.16), seventh in WHIP (0.85) and 13th in hits allowed per nine innings (4.97).

Edwards led the MIAC in shutouts (2), tied for first in complete games (3), was second in both ERA (1.67) and opponent batting average (.179), tied for third in strikeouts (32) and was seventh in innings (32.1) in conference play.

The Johnnies finished third in the MIAC with a 13-7 record (28-16 overall) and made their 16th-consecutive appearance in the MIAC Tournament (18th overall) under the direction of first-year head coach Scott Lieser in 2026.
