Hole-by-Hole Scoring
LE SUEUR, Minn. – Saint John's golf ended team competition at No. 23 Gustavus Adolphus' Triangular on Tuesday, April 28, at Le Sueur C.C. (par 71).
Host Gustavus shot 25-over par for a two-round total of 593. Carleton's four golfers led by four shots after a round one's 292 (+8) but faltered down the stretch to finish two shots behind the Gusties (+27). SJU tallied a 304 (+20) in round one and a 300 (+16) in round two for a total of 604 (+36). Gustavus Black finished two shots behind the Johnnies with a 310-296-606 (+38).
Sophomore Mac Drake (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) led the Johnnies as an individual, tying for third out of 23 golfers with a 146 (+4), two shots from second and seven from first. Drake fired an even-par 71 in the first round, matching his two bogeys with a pair of birdies. He led the tournament through the first five holes of round two but was one-shot over on seven of his next nine holes to card a 75 (+4) and slip two spots on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) was one shot behind Drake in a tie for sixth, posting a round-one 73 and a round-two 74. He birdied No. 1 to start the day and carded an early three-shot eagle but bogeyed six times for a 73 (+2). He shot a 74 (+3) in the second round with 11 pars, two birdies and five bogeys.
Junior Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) jumped up to eighth after shooting -3 on his last nine holes of the day. He carded a 76 (+5) with four birdies in round one and a 73 (+2) with two birdies and an eagle in round two.
Freshman Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) finished 15th with a 78-75-153 (+11) and tied with sophomore Marty Timmons (Brainerd, Minn.), who climbed the leaderboard in round two thanks to 15 pars.
Freshman Braxton Berlin (Lake City, Minn.) took 19th (157, +9) and sophomore Connor O'Hara (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) finished 20th (158, +10) to round out the seven competing Johnnies.
