MIAC Release
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Saint John's senior goaltender
Jon Howe (Chanhassen, Minn.) and junior forward
Jackson Borst (Edina, Minn.) were named the MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday, Feb. 16.
The weekly honor is the third of the season for Howe, who went 2-0 with a 2.01 GAA and a .933 save percentage (56 saves) in SJU's (13-6-4, 8-3-3 MIAC) sweep of Augsburg. The sweep enabled the Johnnies to clinch an MIAC Playoff berth and kept them in the hunt for the MIAC's regular-season championship. He currently leads the MIAC with a 2.38 GAA, among goalies with 600 minutes or more, and is second with a .928 save percentage, among those with 300 saves or more in conference play.
Borst, meanwhile, totaled four points (1g/3a) and a plus/minus rating of +4 in the series sweep. He scored SJU's third goal and assisted its second in Thursday's 5-3 series-opening victory. Borst assisted two more in the Johnnies' 6-1 win at Augsburg the following night, including the game-winner. He is currently riding a four-game point streak with six (1g/5a) during the stretch.
SJU wraps up the regular-season hockey schedule this weekend against Concordia-Moorhead (11-10-2, 6-7-1 MIAC), beginning with a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The Johnnies then travel to face the Cobbers for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Moorhead Ice Arena.
