COLD SPRING, Minn. – Saint John's cross country won its four-team Toni St. Pierre Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5, at River Oaks G.C. in Cold Spring.
SJU placed four athletes in the top 10, including the first- and second-place runners, for a team total of 32 points. Wisconsin-Stout finished second with 34 points, followed by Wisconsin-Superior in third (69) and Northwestern in fourth (107).
Junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) ran a personal best of 15:34.3 to finish first in the 52-man field, 18 seconds ahead of senior teammate
Eamon Cavanaugh (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) in second. Cavanaugh finished with a time of 15:52.1.
Sophomore
Collin Berg (Buffalo, Minn.) was next for the Johnnies, taking seventh (16:09.5), followed by junior
Peyton Martinek (Coon Rapids, Minn.) in 10th (16:23.4) and classmate
Max McCoy (Bennington, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) in 12th (16:25.6).
Freshman
Raegan Lopez (Lakeville, Minn./North) crossed the line in 16:33.2 for 14th in his first collegiate meet, followed by juniors
Colin Kaster (Eden Prairie, Minn./Holy Angels) and
Lars Molenkamp (Almere, Netherlands/Oostvaarders College) in 16th and 17th, respectively.
The Johnnies race next at the MIAC Preview, hosted by Hamline, at 6 p.m. next Friday, Sept. 12 at Highland 9 G.C. in St. Paul - the site of the 2025 MIAC Championships on Nov. 1.
