SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Saint John's junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) finished 148th out of 291 runners at the 2025 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning, Nov. 22, at the Roger Millikin Cross Country Course.
Stencel ran a 25:39, 13 seconds slower than his personal best of 25:26.5 achieved at the MIAC Championships this season where he finished fourth overall. He jumped 25 runners halfway through the race after posting a 12:36.0 (173rd) at the 4k split.
The top 40 finishers received All-America honors, with the 40th and final honoree crossing the line in 24.43.
Emmanuel Leblond of Johns Hopkins (Md.) won the individual title in 23:35, while MIAC individual champion Mohammed Bati (Augsburg) finished second (23.39.6).
Top-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse won the team title with 82 points thanks to three runners in the top five, SUNY Geneseo was second, 50 points behind the Eagles (132). St. Olaf finished 13th as the only MIAC team in the field.
Stencel achieved his first All-Region honor (top 35 individually) with a 23rd-place finish (25:31) out of 214 runners as SJU finished 13th out of 31 teams Nov. 15 at the NCAA North Regional in Colfax, Wis.
He led SJU in all six varsity races this fall, including a fourth-place finish with a personal-best time of 25:26 to earn All-MIAC recognition (top 15) as the Johnnies finished fourth at the conference meet on Nov. 1 in St. Paul.
