No. 25 Saint John's hosts its annual spring invitational this Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27. The tournament begins with tee times at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wapicada G.C. (par 72) in St. Cloud, followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start Sunday at Monticello C.C. (par 71). –

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's finished fourth out of 15 teams last Friday-Saturday (April 18-19) at Gustavus Adolphus' Bobby Krig Invitational. The host Gusties matched Friday's second round with another +7 (291) to win the tournament by 15 shots with a three-round total of 869 (+25). No. 19 Wisconsin-Eau Claire was second with an 884 (+40), followed by Bethel (+42, 886), SJU (+44, 888) and Carleton (+65, 909). SJU recorded Saturday's second-best round with a 298 (+14).
Senior
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) led SJU Saturday with a 1-over par 72 to tie for sixth out of 90 golfers with a 220 (+9). He recorded three birdies on the back nine (four total).
Juniors
Gus Briguet (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and
Tim Fultz (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and freshman
Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) all tied for 17th with a 225 (+14) each. Briguet matched Boemer's four birdies for a final-round score of 73 (+2) and Fultz tallied a 75 (+4).
Junior
Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' five with a 227 (+16) to tie for 24th.
SJU Blue posted a 325 (+41) to fall four spots to ninth with a 928 (+84). Freshman
Marty Timmons (Brainerd, Minn.) led the fivesome in a tie for 36th with a 231 (+20).
Seniors
Will Gruidl (Edina, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) and
Cole Proctor (Brainerd, Minn.) played as individuals and finished 12th (+12, 223) and 22nd (+15, 226), respectively. Proctor led the tournament with 39 pars over the three rounds.

WHO WILL BE HERE: The Johnnies (two teams) are scheduled to be joined this weekend by Augsburg, Bethel (two teams), Carleton, Concordia-Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus (two teams), Macalester, St. Olaf (two teams), St. Scholastica and Wisconsin-Superior (two teams).
LAST YEAR'S TOURNEY: Then-No. 11 Saint John's battled difficult weather conditions to a second-place finish out of 14 teams at last year's spring invitational on April 27-28 (2024). The feels-like temperature was 39 degrees at the start (46 degrees with a northeast wind at 14 MPH) and rain started halfway through the final round.
Then-No. 10/19 Bethel recorded the day's best round, a 2-over par 296, to win the tournament by six shots over SJU with a two-round total of 575 (+3). SJU scored a formidable 290 (+6) to post a 581 (+9), followed by SJU Blue in third (+17, 589), Carleton (+21, 593) and Gustavus Adolphus (+28, 600).
The Royals' Conor Schubring earned medalist honors thanks to a double-eagle (albatross) on the par-5 No. 15 (512) to score a 3-under par 68 and finish with a 137 (-6).
Nate Loxtercamp '24 went -3 over his final 13 holes to card a 2-under par 69 – his team-leading ninth round at par or better this season – to tie for third out of 84 golfers with a two-round score of 140 (-3). He tied for second with eight birdies in the tournament.
Mark Longhenry '24 tallied a 74 (+3) and tied for ninth with a 146 (+3), while Boemer and
Blake Schuler '24 tied for 10th with a 148 (+5). Boemer registered nine pars on the final round's front nine for a 73 (+2) and Schuler posted a 74 (+3).
Sam Berger '24 collected a 75 (+4) and rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for 14th with a 149 (+6). He led the tournament with 28 pars out of the 36 holes.
Briguet tied with Loxtercamp for third with a 140 (-3) thanks to an even-par 71 to lead SJU Blue. Appelhof and Proctor followed with a 73 (+2) each, while Fultz tied for 17th with a 150 (+7).
Thomas Ellis '24 led SJU White, which finished 11th (+58, 630), with a 73 (+2). He tied with
Parker Bartels '24 for 33rd (+11, 154).
