SJU Takes 14th at Large Blugold Invitational

COLFAX, Wis. – Saint John's cross country finished 14th out of 34 teams at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Friday morning, Oct. 3, at Whitetail G.C.

No. 24 Wisconsin-Platteville had three runners in the top 15 and won the race with 104 points, just ahead of No. 17 Wisconsin-Stevens Point in second (111). No. 12 Hope (Mich.) was third, followed by No. 1 Wisconsin-La Crosse (137) and No. 11 St. Olaf (143). The Johnnies totaled 443 points for 14th.

Junior Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) led the Johnnies in 19th, 17th among NCAA Division III competitors, out of 322 runners with an 8k time of 25:32.

Senior Eamon Cavanaugh (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) was next in 80th (26:33), followed by seniors Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) in 150th and Aiden Chalmers (Chaska, Minn./Minnetonka) in 159th (27:45). Junior Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) eased into his season debut in 163rd (27:48) to round out the Johnnies' five.

Open 8k
Freshman Mason Anderson (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley) and sophomore Adam Marable (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) led the rest of the Johnnies in 105th (29:37) and 106th (29:38) in the Open 8k. 

SJU continues its tour of the upper midwest in two weeks with Augustana's Interregional Invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Saukie G.C. in Rock Island, Ill.
