ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Saint John's finished 30th out of 36 teams in the elite Gold 8k race of Augustana's Interregional Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Saukie G.C.
The Gold 8k included 14 top-30 programs. Top-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse took first with 56 points, followed by No. 2 Wartburg (Iowa) with 68, No. 11 Rensselaer (N.Y.) with 197 and No. 13 Chicago (Ill.) with 211. SJU totaled 809 points in 30th, 13 behind Nebraska Wesleyan in 29th (796). Isaac vanWestrienen of Cornell (Iowa) crossed the finish line first in 23:57.
Junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) led SJU in 87th out of 339 runners with a time of 25:47.
Senior
Eamon Cavanaugh (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) was next in 110th (25:58), followed by senior
Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) in 224th (27:00), junior
Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) in 249th (27:10) and junior
Lars Molenkamp (Almere, Netherlands/Oostvaarders College) in 264th (27:20).
Open Race
Sophomore
Adam Marable (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) led the Johnnies in the afternoon's Open 8k in 54th out of 159 runners with a time of 28:36. Junior
Jack Montgomery (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) was not far behind in 57th (28:38) and junior
Colin Kaster (Eden Prairie, Minn./Holy Angels) was 70th (28:59).
The Johnnies race in two weeks at the 2025 MIAC Championships at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Highland 9 G.C. in St. Paul.
