GCAA Release

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Two Saint John's University golf student-athletes – Mark Longhenry '24 (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) and Nate Loxtercamp '24 (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) – earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors, presented by the Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA), for the 2023-24 season on Thursday, July 25.

To be eligible for the All-America Scholar award, student-athletes must be either sophomore, junior or senior with a season scoring average under 79.0, a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and have participated in 50 percent or more of the team's varsity events/rounds during the 2023-24 season. 

The SJU golf program has now had an All-America Scholar each of the past 25 years, for a total of 48 during that span. The honor was the third-consecutive for Loxtercamp and the first for Longhenry.

The All-America Scholar distinction is the third for Loxtercamp, who graduated in May with an accounting degree. He ended his career as a two-time GCAA All-Region (2023 and 2024) and four-time All-MIAC (top 15 at MIAC Championships) honoree, including medalist honors in Fall 2022 (he was second in Fall 2021). Loxtercamp was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-America at-large second team July 17, was a three-time Academic All-MIAC (minimum 3.5 GPA) and two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. He was the NCAA Elite 90 Award recipient in 2022 for having the highest cumulative GPA among the student-athletes competing at the NCAA Championships. 

On the course, Loxtercamp was the MIAC Co-Player of the Year in 2022-23 and led SJU with a 72.8 average in 27 rounds, including 11 rounds at par or better, five top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes (out of 11 events) in 2023-24. The 72.8 average tied the single-season program record set by Joe Schoolmeesters '09 in 2007-08. Loxtercamp ended his career second in SJU history with a 74.1 average in 84.5 rounds. Nearly a third of his collegiate rounds – 27 of 84.5 (32%) – were at par or better and he finished in the top 10 in 22 of the 37 events played (top five in 15).

An economics major, Longhenry led the Johnnies with two tournament wins as co-medalist at both the season-opening Gustavus Adolphus Dual and Saint John's Triangular in 2023-24. He posted a 74.5 average in 27 rounds and finished second on the team in rounds at par or better (10), top-five finishes (3) and top-10 finishes (5). 

The Johnnie golf team placed 12th out of 43 teams last month at the NCAA Division III Championship in Boulder City, Nev. The finish was the 17th in the top 15 at nationals for SJU, which made its seventh-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship and 21st in the last 24 seasons (since 2000). 

SJU shattered its scoring-average record for the third-consecutive season in 2023-24 with a mark of 291.6 in 27 rounds. The Johnnies averaged a 293.1 in 24 rounds last season (2022-23) and posted a 295.6 in 20.5 rounds in 2021-22.

The Johnnies report to campus Aug. 16 and open the 2024-25 season Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Augsburg Invitational (Majestic Oaks G.C. in Ham Lake).
