Hole-by-Hole Scoring
MONTICELLO, Minn. – No. 11 Saint John's golf battled difficult weather conditions to a second-place finish out of 14 teams at its spring invitational on Sunday, April 28, at Monticello C.C. (par 71).
The feels-like temperature was 39 degrees at the start (46 degrees with a northeast wind at 14 MPH) and rain started halfway through the round.
No. 10/19 Bethel recorded the day's best round, a 2-over par 296, to win the tournament by six shots over SJU with a two-round total of 575 (+3). SJU scored a formidable 290 (+6) Sunday to post a 581 (+9), followed by SJU Blue in third (+17, 589), Carleton (+21, 593) and Gustavus Adolphus (+28, 600).
The Royals' Conor Schubring earned medalist honors thanks to a double-eagle (albatross) on the par-5 No. 15 (512) to score a 3-under par 68 and finish with a 137 (-6).
Senior
Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) went -3 over his final 13 holes to card a 2-under par 69 – his team-leading ninth round at par or better this season – to tie for third out of 84 golfers with a two-round score of 140 (-3). He tied for second with eight birdies in the tournament.
Senior
Mark Longhenry (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) tallied a 74 (+3) and tied for ninth with a 146 (+3), while junior
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and senior
Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) tied for 10th with a 148 (+5). Boemer registered nine pars on the front nine Sunday for a 73 (+2) and Schuler posted a 74 (+3).
Senior
Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) collected a 75 (+4) and rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for 14th with a 149 (+6). He led the tournament with 28 pars out of the 36 holes.
Sophomore
Gus Briguet (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) tied with Loxtercamp for third with a 140 (-3) thanks to an even-par 71 Sunday to lead SJU Blue. Freshman
Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) and junior
Cole Proctor (Brainerd, Minn.) followed with a 73 (+2) each, while sophomore
Tim Fultz (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) tied for 17th with a 150 (+7).
Senior
Thomas Ellis (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) led SJU White, which finished 11th (+58, 630), with a 73 (+2). He tied with senior
Parker Bartels (Oxbow, N.D./Kindred) for 33rd (+11, 154).
The Johnnies wrap up their regular-season schedule next Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5, at Bethel's Spring Quadrangular (against the Royals, Gustavus and No. 22 Wisconsin-Eau Claire) at Victory Links G.C. (par 71) in Blaine.
