ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's tennis rolled to its third-straight win with a 7-2 non-conference decision at Northwestern on Thursday, April 25.
SJU (5-9, 4-4 MIAC) built a 2-1 lead after doubles competition and won five singles matches in straight sets.
Senior
Ian Aadland (Brainerd, Minn.) and freshman
Sam Wolden (St. Louis Park, Minn.) recorded an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and the tandem of senior
Will Deters (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) and freshman
Alex Draeger (Litchfield, Minn.) won its fifth-straight match with an 8-6 victory.
Senior
Mason Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) did not surrender a point at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0), while Wolden gave up one point at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0). The victory was the sixth-consecutive for Wolden, who is now 9-3 (7-1 MIAC) in singles play this season.
Seniors
Daniel Perez (Quito, Ecuador) and
Mark Rosen (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) registered identical wins – 6-2, 6-2 – at Nos. 4 and 6, while Aadland tallied the team's fifth singles win at No. 2 (6-4, 6-1).
Jacob Weddle defeated junior
Ryan Will (Northfield, Minn.) in the super-breaker at No. 1 for Northestern (17-9, 2-1 UMAC): 7-5, 4-6, 10-3.
The Johnnies end the regular-season schedule by hosting Carleton at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
