SJU Ends Florida Trip With Narrow 5-4 Loss

ORLANDO, Fla. – Saint John's tennis ended its spring-break trip in Florida with a heartbreaking, 5-4 loss to Ursinus (Pa.) on Friday, March 8, at the USTA National Campus.

Four of the six singles matches were decided by the super-breaker, of which the Johnnies (1-5, 1-0 MIAC) won three, but Ursinus (6-1 overall) earned victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles with a tie-breaker.

The duo of senior Ian Aadland (Brainerd, Minn.) and junior Ryan Will (Northfield, Minn.) fell at No. 1 doubles with an 8-7 (7-3) decision, while senior Will Deters (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) and freshman Alex Draeger (Litchfield, Minn.) suffered an 8-7 (9-7) defeat at No. 2. Junior Cooper Anderson (St. Paul, Minn./White Bear Lake) and sophomore Taylor Duncan (Benson, Minn.) edged their opponent at No. 3, 8-6.

Will picked up his second win (2-4 record) at No. 1 (3-6, 6-4, 10-8) and freshman Sam Wolden (St. Louis Park, Minn.) posted his second victory (2-1 record) at No. 3 (6-4, 4-6, 10-5). Senior Mark Rosen (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) was the third super-breaker win for SJU at No. 5 (0-6, 6-3, 10-6). Anderson fell at No. 6 (4-6, 7-5, 10-7).

SJU returns to MIAC action in two weeks when it visits St. Scholastica for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday, March 23, in Duluth.
